I highly recommend TC's Pest & Termite Management. I contacted them and spoke to Ben and told him my issue and he came quickly to my property. He is very knowledgeable and friendly. Ben has great advice to help you deal with any issues you may have. One of the issues I am having to deal with is fire ants. The nests he treated are all dead. If you want a job well done give them a call.

We had TC's Pest & Termite Management come out to our Flagstone home to deal with our first Fire Ants encounter. TC's came back a couple of weeks later to make sure the treatment was effective. We were happy with the service and reports delivered by Ben.

Fire Ant Control FAQs

  • How can I tell if I have fire ants and not just ordinary ants?

Fire ants are coppery brown with a darker abdomen, and range from about two to six millimetres, so a single nest holds ants of noticeably different sizes. The bigger giveaway is the nest: a dome-shaped mound of loose, crumbly soil with no obvious entry hole on top, often appearing after rain. Disturb one and the ants swarm out fast and sting. If you are not sure, do not poke at it to find out. Send us a photo or book an inspection and we will confirm whether it is Fire Ants you are facing.

  • I think I have found a fire ant nest. What should I do?

Leave it alone. Do not rake it, hose it, mow over it, or try to dig it out, because disturbing a nest can split it into several new ones and make the problem worse. You should avoid moving soil, mulch or turf from around it. Keep children and pets well away from the area.

Fire ants are a notifiable pest in Queensland, once it is treated, we notify the National Fire Ant Eradication Program.

  • Are fire ant treatments safe around my children and pets?

We choose the treatment  with your household in mind, and we will tell you which areas to keep clear and for how long after we treat. If you have young children, pets or livestock, tell us before we start so we plan around them. It is worth remembering that an untreated fire ant nest is itself a real hazard to children and pets, given how aggressively they sting, so dealing with it is usually the safer path.

  • Can I just treat the mound myself with boiling water or a shop product?

We would advise against it, and not only because it rarely works. Pouring boiling water, petrol or a supermarket product on a mound tends to kill the ants you can see while the queen survives deeper down, and the colony responds by budding, splitting into several new nests nearby. One mound becomes a scattered problem. Fire ants need to be treated so the colony itself is destroyed, which is what our process is built to do.

  • What does professional fire ant treatment actually involve?

Two stages, then a check. We inspect to find the nests and gauge how far the infestation has spread, then direct treatment into the nests so both the nest and the foraging ants are dealt with. We then return one to two weeks later to confirm the nest is inactive, and re-treat if necessary.  We will give you monitoring tips, because fire ants are persistent.

The direct nest injection will destroy the nests that have had the chemical treatment. Fire Ants are an invasive pest requiring active monitoring and immediate nest treatments.

  • Are you accredited to treat fire ants?

Yes. Colin, Ben and Sarah are all DPI Fire Ant Accredited Technicians, which is the accreditation that matters for treating a notifiable pest in South East Queensland. Fire ant control is not just another ant job: it is regulated, and doing it properly means treating in line with the eradication program's requirements. Three decades of local pest experience on top of that accreditation means you get people who know the local conditions, not a call centre booking.
